Overall, I was pleased with my first Exhumed show, despite not being a huge fan with none of his albums in my collection. I heard he delivers a good performance, and I was indeed not let down.
The exceptional, high-energy tunes stole the spotlight!!
However, he appeared to utilize every musician's technique possible to evade playing too many tracks:
- The performance commenced 15 minutes behind schedule (20 minutes AFTER the lobby announcement indicated, "the show will start in 3 minutes")
- Several tracks, particularly the slower ones, felt prolonged and monotonous
- He chatted extensively in between songs - typically I don't mind this, but his anecdotes and praises lacked engagement
- Numerous solos were featured - far more than what I've witnessed in a live concert before. A majority of his musicians (including the backup vocalist) were given multiple solos during the show. These solos varied in quality, ranging from outstanding to clearly contrived and uncomfortable. Interestingly, there were no drum solos, despite the drummer's exceptional skills.
